Racing 2 Save Lives at Fay Myers Open House

fay myers open houseAll in all, participating in the Fay Myers open house on April 14th was a success!  We spread the word about Racing 2 Save Lives to a significant number of people who have never heard about our cause.

The day started off slow, which we anticipated, and this gave us ample time to get set up.  The booth looked amazing, especially with Sharon’s R2SL race bike as a part of it.  The banners that UnInk made for R2SL really helped make the booth and our organization come across as a very professional organization.  Many people came over to look at the bike, which gave us a perfect opportunity to talk to them about R2SL and get them interested in our cause.

As people started showing up and walking into Fay Myers, we would go up to people, hand them a Save the Date card and asked them if they knew about Racing 2 Save Lives.  If they hadn’t, we would inform them about our organization and if they had, we asked if they were attending either one of our events this year.

Everyone we spoke too seemed excited about R2SL and either wanted to learn more about us or try to attend our 2008 event(s).  Unfortunately, with the good comes the bad and we had a number of riders disappointed that we were not going to have an event local in Colorado.  Although they understood the Colorado track situation, it did not help to alleviate their disappointment.fay myers open house

It definitely was beneficial to have past event t-shirts available at the booth.  It provided an incentive for people to donate and allowed them to own a “piece of history.”  I do not have the exact figure that was donated during the open house, but, by my estimates, it is around $100.00.

Once Stan provided us with more Save the Date cards and Michelin Man stickers, we amped up our distribution of cards by giving stickers to the children who walked by as well as a Save the Date card, which tended to make its way to the accompanying parents since the kids were more interested in the sticker.

The end of the day went really well.  We managed to go through almost the entire Miller Save the Date cards.  At pack up, only one was left over, from what could be found.  Later in the day, Scott was able to interact with a Red Bull representative about being a corporate sponsor for the event.  She was very excited about the prospect and Scott plans to continue being in touch with her about furthering the partnership.  She has the R2SL Sponsorship packet, Ralph and Stan’s business cards, and all of Scott’s contact information.  He sent her an e-mail this morning to keep R2SL on her radar.  At this point, it looks like it will be product and silent auction item donations, with the prospect of a cash donation for 2008.

It is safe to say that our day was a success!  We were able to spread the word, get more people interested in coming out in May, and have a few more sponsorship opportunities than we had before.  If there are any other open houses, specials, etc. at local dealerships, there is an interest to participate in those as well.
